A Registered SIL Provider You Can Count On

From 1 July 2026, every NDIS SIL provider must be registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. Hilda Care has been a registered provider since 2018 already audit current and operating to the new standards. If your current provider is unregistered or unsure about the transition, talk to us.

Understanding SIL vs. SDA Funding

These two are easy to mix up, but they cover different things:

SDA

SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation) refers to the physical building. It includes the bricks, the wheelchair ramps, and the customised bathrooms.

SIL

Supported Independent Living

SIL (Supported Independent Living) is about the people. It covers the care schedule and the support workers who help you at home. Many people receive both SIL and SDA, with SDA covering the home and SIL providing the daily support you need.

SIL funding pays for your support staff. It does not cover your day-to-day living expenses, such as rent, groceries, or utility bills.

Check Your Eligibility for NDIS SIL Funding

Understanding your NDIS plan should not get in the way of getting the support you need. Supported independent living funding is for people who need a high level of daily, often overnight, hands-on help to live safely and independently. This support is usually for those who need help with daily tasks like personal care, cooking, taking medication, or staying safe at home. The NDIS checks if this level of support is reasonable and necessary for your situation.

Your needs can change over time, and your support should change too. If your situation changes, your NDIS plan and support levels can be reviewed to make sure you continue to receive the right care and support.

Feeling Overwhelmed By NDIS
Paperwork?

We can help you gather the functional evidence you need for your SIL application from Functional Capacity Assessments to Roster of Care documentation.

How We Help You Manage Your SIL Plan and Home Life

When we talk to our participants, certain concerns often come up. For example, David came to us feeling stressed. His biggest worry was,

"I am terrified of being placed with housemates who do not respect my boundaries."

Moving in with strangers can be hard for NDIS participants. As a leading SIL accommodation provider in Melbourne, we do not just fill empty beds. For David, we arranged several meet-and-greets before anyone moved in. If housemate relationships do not work out, we step in to help. David always has the option to seek a different living arrangement through supported independent living in Melbourne.

"Getting a Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) is too expensive right now."

Switching to the new I-CAN assessment tool and stricter functional evidence can be confusing. While we cannot change the NDIS policy, our team works closely with your support coordinator to make sure all your medical and allied health evidence is collected. We help build a clear Roster of Care (ROC) so the NDIS sees the full picture of your daily challenges.

"What if my support needs suddenly change?"

If you suddenly need more support because of a medical change or burnout, we offer flexible scheduling. We can quickly increase your support hours to keep you safe while your Support Coordinator requests an urgent plan review from the NDIA.

Be part of a community where your boundaries are respected. Learn how our careful matching process works.

Her supported independent living funding in Melbourne covers support workers from our team who visit her every day. We make sure she gets her daily medications on time and can live on her own.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Does Supported Independent Living in Melbourne cover my rent and groceries?

No, SIL funding is meant to cover the cost of support workers who help you with daily tasks. It does not cover everyday living expenses such as rent, groceries, or utility bills. However, our team can help you learn how to manage your budget and weekly shopping.

Can I get NDIS SIL services in Melbourne if I want to live alone?

Yes, you can. Supported Independent Living is not just for shared homes. If you want to live on your own, our support workers can come to your home to help with cooking, cleaning, personal care, and tracking your daily medications and appointments.

Do I get to choose who I live with in SIL accommodation in Melbourne?

Yes, you always have a say in who you live with. We know that choosing the right housemates is important for a happy home. We arrange several meet-and-greets before anyone moves in to make sure everyone gets along, respects each other’s boundaries, and feels comfortable.

What happens if I need help at night or a support worker can’t make it?

With our SIL providers in Melbourne, you will never be left without support. If your NDIS plan includes 24/7 care or overnight support, we make sure a trained staff member is always on site. If your regular worker is sick or unavailable, we have a backup team ready to help right away so your routine is not interrupted.

How long does it take for NDIS housing support funding in Melbourne to be approved?

The approval process can take a few months because NDIS assessors need to review your functional capacity assessments and occupational therapist reports. Our team is here to help you gather all the right documents, reports, and evidence to make the application process as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Is Hilda Care a registered NDIS provider?

Yes. Hilda Care is a registered NDIS provider (Registration #4050126032), operating since 2018. We are independently audited and meet the NDIS Practice Standards. Our registration covers Supported Independent Living and a range of related supports.

How is Hilda Care preparing for the 2026 NDIS mandatory registration changes?

From 1 July 2026, all NDIS SIL providers must be registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. Hilda Care has been a registered provider since 2018, so we are already operating to the standards the new framework requires. Participants moving to us during the 2026 transition will not see any disruption to their supports.

Can I switch to Hilda Care from another SIL provider?

Yes. You can change SIL providers at any time, and you do not need to justify your reasons. Speak to your Support Coordinator or Local Area Coordinator. We coordinate the transition with your current provider to keep your supports running without disruption.

Which Melbourne suburbs does Hilda Care service for SIL?

We have SIL homes and 200+ support workers across all five Melbourne regions: Inner Melbourne (CBD, Carlton, Docklands, East Melbourne, North Melbourne), Northern Melbourne (Broadmeadows, Coburg, Preston, Reservoir), Western Melbourne (Burnside Heights, Melton, Caroline Springs, Sunshine), Eastern Melbourne (Box Hill, Hawthorn, Glen Waverley, Ringwood), and Southern Melbourne (St Kilda, South Yarra, Malvern, Bentleigh). Call us to confirm coverage in your specific suburb.

Does Hilda Care have support workers who speak languages other than English?

Yes. Many of our support workers speak Turkish, Italian, Filipino, Macedonian, and Portuguese. If a participant or family prefers to communicate in a language other than English, we will match support workers accordingly where possible.
